Therapy to Support Long Covid and ME/CFS
Invisible Illnesses are Real
There’s so much nonsense out there about people with Long Covid or ME/CFS malingering or it being a psychosomatic stress and trauma response. This is just not true.
What you’re experiencing is real.
While therapy can’t cure long covid,
being seen and understood has incredible impact.
How can therapy help Long Covid and ME/CFS?
Having a chronic illness straight-up sucks.
I would know. I have a fun grab-bag of neurological issues, including hemiplegic migraines. This is a rare type of migraine, where one side of my body experiences weakness, numbness, and sometimes near-paralysis. I have them 30/30 days a month (and am currently having a mild one as I write this).
I have been able to decrease the severity and intensity of my migraines, not by pushing through, but by taking my illness seriously, resting, and getting support.
While the origin of Long Covid and ME/CFS isn’t psychological, having a chronic illness definitely takes a toll on your mental health.
There can be so much grief: mourning the loss of your “old life,” changes in friendships, and even feeling like your identity has been taken away.
Becoming chronically ill and/or disabled is traumatic.
When your life changes radically and things feel stripped away, this is traumatic. Depression, anxiety, hopelessness and other “dark thoughts” are completely normal responses.
Therapy can help you manage and cope with these feelings. Counseling also provides a safe space to express all your feelings, without worry of judgement, lecturing, or censure.
Therapy for Long Covid in Texas and North Carolina
I’m a licensed as a therapist in Texas and North Carolina. This means that I can make diagnoses and our sessions can be submitted to insurance. For those living outside of Texas and North Carolina: contact us to inquire about coaching. Coaching is different from therapy, but still provides support.
Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some benefit in a few sessions, while others create huge changes over several sessions.
Standard Fees:
50-minute counseling sessions are $175.
I have a limited number of sliding scale spots, starting at $125 per session.
Using Insurance for Counseling:
I have tried to use insurance and found it harrowing. You know how insurers don’t like paying for things? This also applies to therapy.
I have had an insurance company tell me two months into seeing a client that they were denying all claims, and they were caused by work-related issues. The kicker? The client was in middle school.
To avoid having to put myself and my clients in a situation where you are unexpectedly stuck with a two-month therapy bill or me having to write off all that income, I do not accept insurance. I would encourage you to request a sliding-scale fee instead.
